We posted a short video about our project on Instagram and Facebook. However, knowing that some of you are not on social media, now you can see it on our blog.
The construction of the clinic is going well… and without any accidents! Safety standards are not quite the same as in our countries, as you see with this bamboo scaffolding.
Otherwise, the construction work is also a good opportunity to learn more about the culture and practice the language.
Here is a situation to illustrate it: a pillar supporting the structure of the building wasn’t placed where we had decided beforehand. When I asked why, they told me it wouldn’t be a problem moving the pillar later. I was surprised, wondering how this would be technically possible. As the construction progressed, the pillar was not moved. Curious, I asked again when they were going to move it. I could see they felt a little uneasy and finally, they called the youngest worker to tell me that it wasn’t possible. I smiled and told them that it was okay! I had not asked the right question in the beginning. In a culture where it’s rude to refuse, it’s complicated to say “no” to a question such as “can you move it?”. Yes, we’re learning every day!

Thank you for your interest in our project ! We take this opportunity of the last blog of the year to wish you a happy holiday season and a year 2021 filled with nice surprises!
