Life here and some experiences…

Stereotypes are about to crumble! Indeed, contrary to what we think of England, the sun is shining most of the time, we eat good food and we got accustomed to driving on the left with only a few relapses but only during the night when there are no other cars around ;-).

To go on about stereotypes, we say that they have a certain sense of humour. It is indeed true. Their sarcastic humour is excellent and often with self-deprecation. It is a good way of putting people at ease.

For example, the teacher asked: “How do you call someone who speaks three languages? A trilingual, ok,how do you call someone who speaks two languages? A bilingual, ok, how do you call someone who speaks one language? A British.”

Also something that is quite known but still surprised us is their attachment to the royal family. Not one negative comment. On the contrary, we have heard all kinds of arguments to defend royalty, which gives a certain charming trait to the British.

One last thing that struck us is the number of people who own a dog, we have not seen that anywhere else. This love of canines goes far, as we even found a little shop that sells ice cream especially for dogs.

On another note, we had the pleasure of our friends paying us a visit sailing through the English Channel. This gave us the opportunity to have a little break in English and enjoy their company. We were able to discover our sea legs and we were lucky not to get seasick, which is never a given.

Bonus

“Two guys are out hunting in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn’t appear to be breathing, his eyes are glazed over. The other man pulls out his phone with trembling fingers and calls the police. He gasps, “My friend is dead! What can I do?”

The operator says “Please stay calm. I will help you. First of all, let’s make sure he’s dead.”

There’s a silence, then a gunshot. The guy gets back on the phone and says “OK, now what?”
